Climb the Morro, cover to cover
A Sangue Frio is "in cold blood" in Portuguese. You fight your way up the Morro da Aurora, a painted hillside of alleys, stairs and rooftops in Rio. You never walk. The camera rides on rails, you duck behind cover, lean out, shoot, and move up when the area is clear. With the mouse you aim and click. With the Arkade Gaming Gun you just point it at the screen, which is how it was meant to be played.
A run is three areas. At the end you get a grade, and your accuracy is up in lights, because on this gun accuracy is the whole point. Then it resets itself for the next person.
Sangue Frio: the slow-motion mark
Kills and headshots fill a three-segment meter. Spend it and time slows to a crawl, the world goes sepia and your trigger marks targets instead of firing. You can mark up to six. Then it all lets go and every shot lands in order, for free. The colour floods back and you've cleared the lot.
| 1 · O Beco | The alley. Low wall and drums for cover. Grunts, a balcony gunner, Rushers and a Grenadier. |
|---|---|
| 2 · A Escadaria | Stairs up to a terrace. A sniper on the water tower. Unlocks the assault rifle. |
| 3 · A Praça | The plaza, with enemies on three height tiers and propane bottles to set off. Unlocks the magnum. |
Know your enemy
- Grunt: pops out of cover with a short glint. Shoot during the warning.
- Rusher: sprints at you with a machete, and the strike ignores cover.
- Sniper: a red laser from a rooftop. Steady your aim to beat it.
- Grenadier: lobs a beeping grenade. Shoot it in the air for an airburst bonus.
Five weapons
Pistol, SMG, shotgun, assault rifle and a .44 Magnum. Each has its own handling, ammo and sound, and the heavier ones are unlocked as you climb.
